CCR plant, La Cangrejera petrochemical complex, Veracruz, Mexico.

In June 2009 Pemex Petroquímica awarded SENER the hybrid contract for performing detailed engineering, obtaining licenses, supplying materials, constructing, testing and providing training for the CCR (continuous catalyst regeneration) unit in the La Cangrejera petrochemical complex in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz (Mexico). In addition to this, SENER is in charge of all of the plant's pre-launch and performance tests, and for providing the documentation for the CCR unit and the platforming unit, as well as the documents for the auxiliary services.

This refining unit has a nominal processing capacity of 27,500 BPSD (Barrels Per Stream Day) of desulfurized naphtha, and its main products are 21,254 BPSD of regenerated gas rich in aromatic contents (benzene, toluene, xylenes) and 71,777.10 Nm3/h of net gas with a maximum content of 93.6% mol of hydrogen before purification.

It consists of two units: U-10 (CCR Platforming Reforming Unit) to transform naphta in aromatics and U-15 (Cyclemax CCR Regenerator Unit).

The main challenges faced by SENER in this project primarily involved developing the detailed engineering based on the basic engineering subcontracted by Pemex, and using (for the first time in this type of project) the SPF (Smart Plant Foundation) tool, which develops 3-D electronic models of plants.
